Jessica Klika returns to give us some more practicals for grounding, regulation, remaining in the present, and focusing on slowing down as educators. She talks a bit about identifying our needs with acronym H.A.L.T.S.-- where we ask ourselves am I Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired, or Stressed, right now? Identifying what we need and then seeking to meet those needs is our goal our healthy teachers.
Jessica recommends educators read "Ruthless Elimination of Hurry" by John Mark Comer as she says that "we really need to hone in and give attention to rest because slowing down is the key to remaining in the present, which is our goal."

In the middle of our "Teacher Self-Talk" podcast unit former middle school teacher gone counselor, Jessica Klicka, shares some tips and tricks for keeping ourselves well inside and out. As we all know teachers can be notorious for putting off their own needs for those of others, but is this really the right thing to do in the long run? Ignoring the signs our bodies are sending us can lead to some serious health issues all around... so we're needing to tune into the signs our bodies are sending us and regularly checking in with our emotional state to keep us in the healthy lane. It's super important that we're regularly filling our buckets (needs): physical, emotional, and spiritual. After all we are no good as Kingdom Educators to our students (or our educational community, at large) if we're constantly running on empty, right?! Setting healthy boundaries, taking breaks, and utilizing restorative practices are keys to breaking free of the stress cycle that eat at our Kingdom impact, and the JOY of partnering with Jesus in our classrooms.
Jessica Klika comes to us from Cornerstone Christian Counseling out of Boulder Colorado, however she counsels online from her Florida home. God led Mrs. Klicka, a former middle school teacher of 8 years into the world of counseling. Because she's so familiar with the many unique challenges we face in our classrooms, Jessica is a perfect asset to this professional development type episode. We pray this episode encourages you by giving you a "hand up"-- so that you're able to increase your own health by listening to what you need and following up to meet your own needs.

Sometimes we have "words" we're holding onto that we haven't seen come to pass yet. What we do with those words matters... it matters how we steward these prophetic words-- whether they're straight from scripture or prayed or prophesied over us. It's our job to hold onto them, pray them, and declare them over ourselves on the darkest days to stir up faith and expectation because "God is not a man that he should lie" (Number 23:19).

Borrowed from a pivotal teaching on Declarations, Decrees, and Finding Confidence in God in 2020, Jesica addresses a core group of teachers seeking to upgrade their identity as a Kingdom Educator. She begins this episode emphasizing the importance of setting our minds on things above (see Colossians 3:2) for ourselves and our circumstances, and invites us to step into a Kingdom Educator Mindset, which hinges on us knowing our identity as Christ's beloved son/daughter first. Then Jesica moves into testimonies from her own public school classroom in which she helped students step into their God-given identities and the impact this brought to not only the classroom, but their lives as well. Next week we will continue this journey by moving into truth declarations for ourselves and our students.

Let's pause to examine some background beliefs we need in order to live as Victors in Christ (instead of victims) and carry the Kingdom into our schools. Our aim is to live each day with a Kingdom Educator Mindset:
1. Invite the Holy Spirit to help you take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5), so we can step upward into our true identity as sons and daughters of the King.
2. Recognize that you're commissioned to carry His miracle working power into your school.
3. Meditate on the truth of scriptures that remind you of your identity and victory (like those listed below), and declare these truths over yourself so that you intentionally allow the truth to set you free from any lies that have held you in victimhood.
4. Remind yourself throughout the day that truly all things are possible (Mark 9:23), lay down what's in our hands, and ask God to breathe His unlimited ideas, time, resources, etc. on your needs and believe He will be faithful to do this (1 Thessalonians 5:24).
Victory Scriptures from Patricia King's Book Decree a Thing: Deuteronomy 28:13; Psalm 27:1; Isaiah 54:17; Luke 10:19; John 8:36,44; Romans 6:16; 8:1-2,17,32,37,39; 12:2; 2 Corinthians 2:14; 5:17,21; 10:3-5; Ephesians 1:6,20-21; 4:27; 6:14; Colossians 1:13; 2 Timothy 1:7; James 4:7; 1 Peter 2:9; 1 John 1:9; 2:1; 3:8; Revelation 12:11.

Even if you've just begun teaching you know the power of your thoughts! Our feelings can be up and down and all around in response to all we experience in single day at school, but the truth of our calling, identity, and who God is to us doesn't change... and so the Word of God becomes the bedrock from which we must live our lives as Kingdom Educators on mission. We're embarking on a journey of being transformed in our thinking so we can carry out the dreams on our King's heart within the world of education!
Pastor Tiffany Fruits has undergone some HUGE changes in her personal life to follow God's calling to become a home school mama and her obedience has required her own mental upgrade into victorious thinking. In this episode she shares some very practical tips for rewiring our brains from the "mundane" way of thinking into the "all things are possible" way of thinking, and it's by rooting ourselves on a few simple practices that alert us to the truth of God's Word:
1. Acknowledge the situation your in-- be honest with yourself about how it's very real,
2.Be aware of your feelings and identity why you're having particular responses,
3. Hand your responses to Jesus and ask Him what He thinks.
4. Finally ask God what you are to do. Maybe He wants you to notice someone today, give an encouraging word, do something, or just be. He will show you.
Just becoming aware of how we are feeling and giving those feelings to Jesus can change everything in terms of moving out of Victimhood into Victorious thinking. We can trade in overwhelm for heaven's hope-filled perspective!
